I’ve been working with the .NET 2.0 platform since Beta 1. I used just about every beta and ctp MS released and let me tell you one thing: they were buggy. SQL Server 2005 has always been much more reliable (ok, I admit it, I don’t use its complex features). A few weeks before the official release of VS2005, I was getting very worried. The Release Candidate was just as buggy as the older betas. I thought there’d be no way for MS to release a stable build for November…
But, they did it! I recently got my hand on Vs2005 RTM and SQL2005 RTM and I must say the thing is extremely stable! RC crashed about 40 times a day. RTM has only crashed once on me so far… pretty impressive! Microsoft did a pretty good job although there are still many bugs being worked on. MS is supposed to ship a service pack soon after release to address those issues. Nevertheless, Visual Studio 2005 is a much better product than 2003 and I feel it’s well worth the upgrade.
