Ari Paparo is a founder of Blink.com (RIP), a social bookmarking website, similar to del.icio.us. They raised 13 million dollar, had 1.5M users, yet, they failed where del.icio.us succeeded. The later was acquired by Yahoo! this week, and Blink.com is a bust.
Paparo’s article is clear about this: having a great idea is important, but implementing is correctly is even more.

Very well said. Execution is key. However, times are also changng. I wonder what they needed $13M for. We are boot strapping http://www.blinklist.com and are well on our way to develop one of the leading sites after del.icio.us. Mike

Very true. $13M is a LOT of money, especially when you’re building a website. I’m confident I could build a del.icio.us clone in about a month with $0 (and probably a Blink.com clone, too).
People raised this kind of money because they could, and they wanted to be worth millions ASAP. Bootstrapping is of of the (many) key to success.
BTW, you have something great at BlinkList! Keep up the good work!
