I was playing with my iPhone last night and got this interesting error message:

What’s so interesting about it you ask? Well, the iPhone is exclusive on AT&T in the USA.
No T-Mobile deal has been announced in the US yet, and it’s likely that the Jesus Phone won’t “officially” be available on T-Mobile anytime soon given the 5 year exclusivity agreement between Apple and AT&T.
Is there something we don’t know about this exclusivity agreement? 5 years equals forever in technology; I’d be very surprised if Apple signed something like that.
One thing is for sure, Apple seems pretty ready for T-Mobile… I wonder what AT&T’s management will think of that. Hmmm.

I believe T-Mobile is the provider in Germany. I would bet you will see all the providers in Europe on that list soon.

I think they meant T-Mobile USA, not T-Mobile Germany.

You’re lying. This is a 3rd party app called Services.app, which is available on Installer. The first time you disable Edge and re-enable it, it asks you what APN settings to apply.

I think the message is specific to the other providers data network, not to using the phone as a T-Mobile customer. I’ve been able to browse and check my email on Unicel’s data network ever since I got my iPhone. Unicel is the only provider near my rural workplace. It seems that your phone just doesn’t know what data network to connect to, so it’s asking. That’s all.

I have to agree with Foss. Expect to see all European providers in that list soon. If your iPhone is “accessible” you can also see a list of carrier icons by FTP’ing or SSH’ing into the file system. Interesting find none the less. I have yet to see that dialog captured by anyone else.

*sigh*
This is a standard message that the 3rd party tool Services.app gives you. This has nothing to do with Apple.

You’re right, Xander. It is Services.app. I was 100% positive it was my iPhone reporting this. Sorry about that, my mistake!
